Accelerated Reader is a computer program that helps teachers and librarians manage and monitor children’s independent reading practice.
Y7 and Y8 students are encouraged to pick a book at their own level and read it at their own pace. When finished, your child takes a short quiz on the computer. Passing the quiz is an indication that your child understood what was read.
Accelerated Reader gives children, teachers, and librarians feedback based on the quiz results, which the teacher then uses to help your child set goals to further improve their reading skills.
Children using Accelerated Reader choose their own books to read, rather than having one assigned to them. They can then search for this book on the Accelerated Reader platform and take a quiz on it. This makes reading an enjoyable experience as they can choose books that are interesting to them.
To access Accelerated Reader, students need to visit this website.
Then, they will need to click ‘I am a student’.
Then, they need to login using the details given to them by the LRC manager. They will have these login details written down in their planner.
Students can then search for the books they have been reading and quiz away!
