Accelerated Reader is an online programme that helps teachers and librarians manage and monitor children’s independent reading practice whilst also promoting reading for pleasure.

Y7 and Y8 students are encouraged to pick a book of their choice from Accelerated Reader’s recommended levels and read it at their own pace. When finished, they take a short quiz on the computer about what they have read. Passing the quiz is an indication that your child understood the book.

Accelerated Reader gives students and staff feedback based on the quiz results, which is used to help your child set goals to further improve their reading skills. We also reward student achievement through various challenges and competitions linked to Accelerated Reader throughout the year.
