On Wednesday 13th November, representatives from Howden Joinery Group came to Goole Academy, and 80 keen and eager Y9 students got to spend the morning learning all about the behind-the-scenes aspects of running a business, as part of our school push on Careers Education, Information, Advice, and Guidance.
The teams (with business names ranging from The Wombles, to Pretty Pringles, to Chocolate Porridge), attended a series of workshops, and learnt all about how to effectively create a product and run a business. Over the course of the day, our students learnt about a number of key areas:
- Supply Chain & Logistics
- Manufacturing Continuous Improvements
- Design & Development
It was an absolutely fantastic day - Goole students certainly seemed to make a lasting impression on the staff from Howden's who kindly came to teach our students about the intricacies of running a business. One member of Howden's staff emailed in to say "we all had a great morning and I hope the children all got something from it. They were very well behaved – you should be proud of them." - We certainly are!
Even though all students who participated benefited greatly from the event, Howden's staff nominated outstanding students and outstanding teams for their attitude and work ethic over the course of the day. Winning teams (The British Empire and The Eagles) have been invited to Howden Joinery Group HQ for a tour and a Christmas meal in December.
Well done to all involved! What an excellent day!
