Health and Social Care BTEC Tech Award consists of three Components: One component assessed through external examination and two components made up of internally assessed coursework. The content of the exam is based on how to improve health and wellbeing for an individual based on a given scenario. The other components cover topics such as the development of a celebrity through life stages, their physical, intellectual, social and emotional changes and the factors that contribute to these changes, health and social care provision within the local area and the care values that underpin this. Students are required to relate the theory they learn to specific case studies within health and social care settings to gain accreditation.
As they progress through this subject, students acquire the skills needed to care effectively for users of health and social care settings. They will learn skills that will allow them to assess needs and provide care, to communicate effectively to all ages and abilities as well as practical skills that they can apply when working within any health and social care setting.
